Sam's Room | #SMSMS Virtual Meetup
Thu, Oct 08
|Google Meet
A meetup held to learn from other people’s realities without needing to live their lives, to practice openmindfulness in real time, and to find out how warm depth can feel when it isn’t cold, dark, or lonely. Inspired by the philosophical thought-experiment known as, "Mary's Room."

ABOUT
Imagine a room where nothing is actually colorful. No paint or swatches—just words, memories, stories, metaphors, “it feels like…” and “it looks like…” and “it reminds one of…”
That’s the original Mary's Room thought experiment:
can you really understand something without ever having experienced it yourself?
In academic philosophy, Mary is introduced as a fictional scientist who “knows” everything there is to know about color on paper—physics, biology, neurology—but has only ever lived in black and white. When she finally steps out and sees color for the first time, philosophers start spinning out questions like:
"Did she really know color before she experienced it?"
